How do we do it?
We let every new employee set their job title and future pay.
Everyone is hired on as a “Helper” and they’re given the specific job descriptions and skill sets and pay raises to move up to be a “Technician” and then a “Lead Technician.” There’s no time frame or other constraints and they can give themselves as much as a 70% raise in a year if they so desire. They make themselves more valuable to the company at their own pace and are rewarded for it.
I’ve found that a transparent and attainable reward structure is the surest way to improve efficiency and net profitability—and by allowing our employees to really own the responsibility of their salary, we’ve built a greater sense of trust at our company, which goes a long way to bumping up Employee Satisfaction.
