Entry #1: “Creative Thinking” as a Differentiator

We recently dealt with a prospect that makes custom painted aluminum framing. They were incurring damage to their product when forklifts unloaded their 24’ frames from delivery trucks.

While the panels were already packaged in corrugated cardboard and wrapped with protective packaging, they’d still experience an unacceptable amount of damage.

Though we were never faced with such an issue before, my colleague and I reviewed the problem and came up with a new “Super Packaging” product: a U-Channel shaped press board that fits over the top and bottom of their existing package. Cut into 12″ lengths, the U-Channel design easily accommodated our new customer’s pre-packaged aluminum frames inside while adding an extra layer of protection specially reinforced where a forklift picks up the package.

In fact, as you read this entry our new customer is using our packaging system for the first time.

By using our system they not only cut down on product damage and increase customer satisfaction, but they’ll also significantly reduce their cost of sales (COS) by reducing re-work (cost of repairing and repainting their parts and re-shipping costs), delivering more revenue to their bottom line.

And if that wasn’t enough, they are also looking at multiple usages of our new packaging system, calculating the number of times they can safely reuse each unit to save them even more money.
