As a really small SBE owner of an Insurance and International Shipping Company, I need to advertise, as well as become more visible in my community. I decided the best way to do that was to add a complimentary service offering. After some research I decided to add U-Haul Moving Services—feeling it’d compliment my core business.
U-Haul is a huge brand and in just a month I’ve increased the flow of walk-in customers to my business located off a side street. I’ve had Insurance customers call back to rent U-Hauls and I’ve submitted a few quotes for Insurance to my International Shipping customers. But the best part is how the U-Haul service has increased interest in my core business: people renting trucks need to enter my office. While they’re there, they’re reading all about my Insurance and International Shipping services. Additionally, I’m surrounded by apartment buildings. When these folks need to move—guess who’s the closest U-Haul dealer?
I didn’t pay any start-up fees for the U-Haul- I only needed to provide 2 parking spaces, and I can even sell additional items such as boxes and packing tape that bring in additional income. At least 5 days each week I receive calls about moving something.
My first week as a U-Haul contractor I had a long term rental with one customer who also purchased Commercial Insurance. Although every now and then I have to take off my heels and move a truck, I’m really excited about the future because this secondary service is driving additional interest in my core business.
