April 2012: Vote for The Supplier Spotlight Contest NOW!

The Supplier Spotlight monthly SBE contest is sponsored by Supplier-Connection – An initiative of major US companies committed to spending more with US-based small businesses.

Greetings to all SBEs…

While I was preparing this month’s contest entries – a record 10, I might add – I had an email exchange with a disabled US Armed Forces Veteran business owner that reminded me why I feel so fortunate to be working on this initiative.  That there are people defending the United States with their life so I can enjoy the freedoms of US Citizenship is humbling.  To all men and women who’ve served our country with honor and dignity I offer a heartfelt “Thank You.”

Last month Supplier-Connection achieved major milestones: First, we held a major press event and announcement that included signing an MOU with the Small Business Administration and the SBA followed up by inviting thousands of small businesses to join us – and SBE site registrations tripled!

Second, on March 30th the Development Team seamlessly rolled out a major upgrade to Supplier-Connection with significant new features that will help SBEs differentiate themselves (see below!).

This month, I’m happy to announce that with a little email prompting, we received 10 entries for the Spotlight contest, and all from first-time registered SBE contestants!

I’m posting a link to Entry #1 here because WordPress only shows the last 10 blog posts in the right-hand navigation pane (10 Contest Entries + The Voting Blog = 11 Posts), as a result click here to read Entry #1: 8 Ways to Turn Quality into a Profit Center because it’s very hard to find.

Please make sure to read the entries before you vote here:

Again, please take the time to read each entry before you vote!

The latest release of Supplier-Connection added two important features to the service, both found in the Supplier Application, both designed to make your SBE standout to Corporate Buyers:

1. For SBEs that have worked with the Federal Government please go to STEP 2 in the supplier application, scroll ~3/4s of the way down the page to Type of Customers Supported (see graphic below)Supplier-Connection STEP 2 of the Application

and click the radio button next to BOTH COMMERCIAL & FEDERAL, six questions now appear (e.g.: CAGE Code, etc.) related to your experience with the US Federal Government. Answer them all! Then when Corporate Buyers looking for SBEs for Federal Gov’t deals search the database… you could be included in the search!

2. Supplier-Connection now allows you to upload a brochure, your logo, and link to a SlideShare sales presentation about your company (we’re adding YouTube, SlideRocket and more in the coming weeks) so you can really differentiate yourselves from your competition. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Please go to STEP 1 of the application and scroll down to “Company Collateral” and add your marketing information immediately because you want a buyer to know more about you than just the basic database information!

As always, the company with the most votes gets promoted on the Supplier-Connection web portal for the month of May.

Voting ends Tuesday evening, April 24th at 8:00PM EDT! Don’t delay, read ‘em and vote!

SBEs are a journey… Be safe!  May the best idea win!
