As SBEs in a highly competitive environment, we need to always be focused on improving the quality of our products or services. In order to foster a company culture of constant and incremental improvement, we identify areas for improvements, create specific targets and then give our employees targets that meet our goals… And then, we make sure we reward our employees when the targets are met or exceeded.
We almost always have some type of contest going, whether it’s an individual or team contest. Contests and goals are real effective for sales teams, but they work great for other departments as well:
- Our marketing team has a goal to increase engagement rates by 15% on their next campaign.
- Our operations team has a current goal to decrease paper and ink usage by 90% (by migrating various processes to paperless systems).
- Accounting can have goals for invoicing accuracy and reducing accounts receivable aging.
Increased efficiencies/reduced waste for every department in your organization will result in improved financial performance.
These goals give each department something to strive for and when accomplished, we reward that person or that department, acknowledging and reinforcing the importance of their work to our company.
