November 2012: Vote for the Supplier Spotlight Contest Now!

I know I say this every month, but that’s the nature of Truth: it bears repeating.  The Supplier Spotlight Contest is truly by real SBEs, for real SBEs.  This has become an incredible forum for help & guidance for any growing Small Business—all you have to do is look at the entries to see why.

NOVEMBER VOTING HAS ENDED!

Why not stick around and read the entries?

Thank you to this month’s SBEs for submitting their entries—I know the most precious resource any SBE has is Time, and I’m grateful so many have used theirs for this contest, especially smack-dab-in-the-middle of Hurricane Sandy!

Entry #1: 5 Advantages of Being Small | ES Consulting

Entry #2: Let Employees Set Their own Reward Pace | Integrated Security Consultants Inc.

Entry #3: Solve Your Customers’ Problems
| Fast Lane Clothing Company, Inc.

As always, the company with the most votes gets promoted on the Supplier-Connection web portal for the month of December. Voting ends Monday evening, November 26th at 8:00PM Eastern. Check back often to see what happens this month.

Supplier-Connection SBE updates

Supplier-Connection 2012 Webinar Series: Knowledge to Succeed

December 12, 1PM EST: “Leveraging the Network to Your Benefit”

This webinar will include:

  1. An overview of the program’s milestones,
  2. Highlight new features & important functionality,
  3. Show you what the Buyer Portal looks like providing insight into how buyers are searching for SBEs,
  4. Provide an overview of the many ways to connect & become part of the Supplier-Connection Community

Who should attend: All SBEs who want a better understanding of how Supplier-Connection works.  Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of the team running the Supplier-Connection initiative.  Do not miss this webinar!  Invitations will be sent starting the last week of November.

A note on “SBE-Connect”

When I started SBE Connect I really felt it would be the most important initiative introduced since we launched—still do, in fact.  But, since I launched the program in May, we’ve had a total of 25 SBEs join, which makes it impossible for a program of this nature to succeed.  So, for now, it’s with heavy heart I say farewell as we stop marketing the initiative.

Although this didn’t go as planned, it serves as a great measurement on the current sentiment of how important and effective social media is to SBEs (some on the Supplier-Connection team believe it should be a White Paper study). We’re still early in social media’s acceptance curve and will try pushing this again some time next year.

For those who recently joined “SBE Connect” we’ll keep the LinkedIn sub-group “live” —we still want everyone in the group to “Follow”, “Like”, etc. each other’s Social Media platforms.

Remember…

Running an SBE is a journey; you don’t have to do it alone!

About Dan Gallo

I'm a lifelong entrepreneur, starting/running businesses since I sold seeds door-to-door when I was 7 in The Bronx. I've been playing guitar and enjoying the game of baseball since I was 5 (born a NY Yankees fan). I married Kim in 1983 & we have two sons; Daniel's a real smart, insightful & well read musician (www.thefieldrecordings.com) and Adam is a brilliant senior @ Brooklyn College double majoring in creative writing/literature & anthropology. Since 2002, one of the things we love to do together is go on service & missions trips to Belize. We've collectively spent over 60 weeks in Belize & I serve on the Board for the missions organization (www.twaw.org) focused on Belize. I started my 1st company in January 1985, and other than selling a company in 1999 and running it for a multi-billion dollar company for 2 years before buying it back, I've been self-employed. I sold my last company, Mentor Communications Group, in 2004 and after 2 years with the acquiring company I left and started The Allasso Group, LLC doing Sales Strategy & Business Development, Marketing Communications, Social Media since April 2006. Although I'm still contracted by Supplier-Connection as their Small Business Advocate, I recently was contracted to run a software company http://myvrm.com. I enjoy consulting, but it's really great to be running an SBE again.
